Dr Milind Chitnis is the Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatric Surgery at the East London Hospital Complex, affiliated with the Walter Sisulu University in East London, South Africa. He has been the Honorary Secretary of the College of Paediatric Surgeons of South Africa for 2020-2023 and a member of the Council of the College of Paediatric Surgeons of South Africa for 2017-2026. He is a board member of the Global Initiative for Children’s Surgery (2020-2026) and the Honorary Secretary of the Pan African Pediatric Surgical Association (PAPSA) for 2023-2027. He is also a founding Trustee of the NPO- Eyabantwana for the Children- which supports the needs of the Department of Paediatric Surgery in East London. He is passionate about improving Paediatric Surgical care and training in low- and middle-income countries in general and Africa in particular.

All the hard work payed off by being honored with the Order of National Action Award in 2018 from King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Kingdom of Bahrain on the 16th of December 2018 at the Official National Day Ceremony.
Salmaniya Medical Complex is the largest tertiary care and teaching hospital in the Kingdom of Bahrain where my practice is based.
Pediatric Surgery Training had continued at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa, Ontario- Canada [CHEO is a Pediatric and Academic Health Services Center, including a specialized acute-care hospital, affiliated with the University of Ottawa],where a two year Pediatric General Surgery Clinical Fellowship was completed.
Board Certification was achieved in General Surgery from the Arab Board of Health Specialization followed by a Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland and then Pediatric General Surgery Clinical Fellowship.
Arabian Gulf University, College of Medicine and Medical Sciences is my undergraduate university where I obtained my Medical Doctor Degree and Bachelor of Basic Medical Sciences and succeeded in becoming a member of the Faculty by joining the Department of Surgery holding the post of an Assistant Professor .
Program Director and training coordinator of Department of Surgery is a post I am entrusted with where I am highly passionate about training and advancing surgical education.
I have been the Chief Editor of Department of Surgery Annual reports since the 2010 Annual Report.
